The Hawks’ Hypocrisy Exposed Anew

On the very same day that the Wall Street Journal’s editorial board gives Sens. Joe Lieberman and John McCain yet another platform to press Obama to provide weapons and other support to Libyan rebels to end the “Gadhafi dictatorship,” Tim Dickenson at Rolling Stone cites some some previously undisclosed Wikileaks cables describing the two hawks, plus their favorite sidekick, Sen. Lindsay Graham, offering public-relations advice, among other things, to the dictator and his son during a visit to Tripoli in August, 2009. Particularly delicious is their pledge to help Gadhafi secure delivery of eight C-130 aircraft that had been sold to Libya in 1972 but never delivered, as well as the call by Graham, who only yesterday suggested to Pentagon chief Bob Gates that he should be “dropping a bomb” on Gadhafi himself, that the two nations should “fortify” their ties. Read the article with links to the original cables here.
