The Annapolis Conference in Historical Context

For a provocative and remarkably concise historical analysis of the “Clash of Civilizations” and its relationship to the Zionist movement leading up to next month’s Middle East peace conference in Annapolis, take five minutes to read Uri Avnery’s latest essay for Peace Now, entitled “The Mother of All Pretexts.” I rather doubt it was Samuel Huntington’s deliberate intention to demonize Islam, but it’s clear that the neo-conservatives, the Christian Right, and other assorted hawks who go on about “Islamo-fascism” have taken the ball and run with it. Oh, and don’t forget that David Horowitz’s “Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week” is coming up in less than ten days!

Gosh, thanks, Jim. I was trying to forget that such idiocy was just around the corner. The calendar’s now marked, although I get the impression it will be hard to miss with all the braying in the Murdochian media.
