Jon Stewart takes on Islamophobia

We here at LobeLog have made no secret of our distaste for the views of Daniel Pipes, Steve Emerson, Robert Spencer and the Fox News producers who give these individuals access to the airwaves on an all-too-frequent basis.  But Jon Stewart took on all of them and thoroughly dissected and debunked their islamophobic bigotry in one of the better written and delivered Daily Show monologues to date.

White House source confirms Abbas viewed as obstacle

A Washington correspondent for Israel’s Channel 10 television station has quoted a White House source as saying that the main current obstacle to the resumption of direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians is the head of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas.

The source also stated that the US administration had obtained what it required of the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and that the time had come to put pressure on the Palestinian side to engage in direct negotiations with Israel.

  2. They’d better be careful lest they get Hamas brought to the table. I know nobody wants a self righteous group trampling delicate diplomacy

  3. I love Jon Stewart. The light he is able to shed on even the so-called liberal media just demonstrates how much the right-wing has captured the airwaves. “Should Muslims have the right to build mosques in the neighborhoods in which they live?” That this is even posed as a question is revealing of the way racism against Muslim Americans works. You can say it’s about terrorism, but it’s not. It’s about holding Muslims in general responsible for al-Qaeda’s attacks on the U.S., when al-Qaeda was funded and sponsored by the C.I.A. during the Cold War to “bleed” the Soviet Union. It “racializes” political history so that the country forgets where and how al-Qaeda came into existence.

  4. Jon Stewart has shown great cowardice regarding the Israel Palestinian conflict. I don’t believe he has uttered a word through the years. Sadly, his show is vapid. That said, it is more substantive than anything else on TV. (Actually Fareed Zakaria’s show can be powerful, but it’s not positioned, marketed or rebroadcast. This reminds me of shades of Phil Donahue–his show had the best ratings on CNBC but was cancelled for it’s provocative nature.)
