First Iran Nuclear Deal Tidbits

by Jasmin Ramsey

Geneva — It’s hard to believe that less than 24 hours ago Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif announced through Twitter that a deal over Iran’s nuclear program had been reached after what felt like a marathon round of negotiations. By now you’ve probably seen a good number of analyses of what it all means and what lies ahead, but I know you’re saving your eyes for what we have been and will be featuring on this site

In the mean time, here’s the official text of the “Joint Plan of Action”, the EU/Iran Joint Statement, the US’ official fact sheet on what the deal entails (i.e. how they’d like media to frame it) and some excerpts from a congratulatory letter Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei sent to President Hassan Rouhani following the deal’s announcement.

Finally, I thought I was being a baby when I found myself nodding off from exhaustion at around 5:30am during Secretary of State John Kerry’s presser here but reporters who have covered these talks long before me admitted in one way or another that they were just as tired. Keep that in mind as you watch this fun clip of Iran’s nuclear negotiating team (who perhaps worked harder than anyone in Geneva this week) leaving the InterContinental Hotel for the signing ceremony shortly after 3am.
