Some of FDD’s Bigger Donors and Another Defection

As Donna Brazile blamed the “influence of their funders” on FDD’s increasingly “radical right-wing” orientation, it might be helpful to list those individuals and institutions that, according to publicly available tax records, have contributed $100,000 or more — sometimes much more — to the group from 2002 through 2005. They include:

The Abramson Family Foundation

Leonard Abramson

The Annenberg Foundation

The Barrack Foundation

The Newton and Rochelle Becker Family Foundation

Newton Becker

Marcus Bernard

The Russell Berrie Foundation

The Samuel Bronfman Foundation, Inc.

The Andrea and Charles Bronfman Fund at Brandeis

Charles Bronfman

Edgar Bronfman

James and Patricia Cayne

The Dalck Feith Revocable Trust

David Cutler

Tony Gelbart

Gerome Goodman

The Sanford J. Grossman Charitable Trust

Hyperion Partners

Lewis Ranieri

Roland Arnall, Ameriquest Capital Corp.

The Sarah Scaife Foundation, Inc.

The Charles and Lynn Schustermann Foundation

The Judy and Michael Steinhardt Foundation

Steinhardt Partners

Michael Steinhardt

The Sweetfeet Foundation

The Marcus Foundation, Inc.

Joseph and Felicia Weber

I note that the name of Marc Ginsberg, who served as U.S. ambassador to Morocco under Bill Clinton and a bona fide FOB (”friend of Bill”) since their law school days, has disappeared from FDD’s board of advisers in the last 48 hours. That leaves Sen. Joseph Lieberman, the ubiquitous James Woolsey, and former Georgia Gov. Zell Miller as the Democratic holdouts in what is an overwhelmingly neo-conservative — and Likudist — organization.

Jim Lobe

Jim Lobe served for some 30 years as the Washington DC bureau chief for Inter Press Service and is best known for his coverage of U.S. foreign policy and the influence of the neoconservative movement.

  1. Joe Lieberman is definitely not leaving. And neither is Zell nor Woolsey. They are the hardest of the hardcore.

  2. At some point, the contradictions sparked by American Mideast policy will cause some top-level Democrats to spontaneously burst like kernels of popcorn. Trying to maintain their gooey political correctness AND support the neo-Prussian prerogatives of the Washington-Tel Aviv axis has the mercenary tenets of their political “souls” stretched to breaking point.
