Line of the Day

By Daniel Luban

From everyone’s favorite, Andy McCarthy:

Michael [Ledeen] has been saying for years that the [Iranian] regime can be toppled without a military invasion. I haven’t been as confident about that — but he has been right about everything else, hasn’t he?

Evidently written with a straight face. McCarthy watchers may want to read the whole thing — another strong effort from the author of “Did Obama Write ‘Dreams From My Father’…Or Did Ayers?

  1. The new ‘better’ regime is an interesting twist. I wonder what he has in mind? Something along the lines of Pakistan or Turkey?

  2. “. . . the future of the world revolves around the Iranian cauldron.” Is McCarthy nuts? The world will dissolve if the Islamic Republic continues to stand? I just can’t comprehend the level of stupidity this fellow displays. As I’ve said before, NR hasn’t been a serious publication since Buckley stepped down. It’s amazing how people with no intellectual substance — be it a right-winger like R. Lowry or a lefty like M. Kinsley — can rise so high in the journalistic world. It’s an example of the complete lack of seriousness in contemporary American culture.

Is someone going to write a piece on the ongoing events in Iran, where it seems the urban population has turned wholeheartedly against the regime? Hard to see them achieving success, though if they did it would make all of us happy. For once McCarthy and Luban would be in the same camp!
