A Lovely Couple

There’s been a lot of good work by reporters and bloggers in exposing one of the major funding sources — Joyce and Aubrey Chernick — of the ascendant Islamophobia movement in the last several days.

A particularly good summary with relevant links was provided by Mondoweiss today, and there’s no need to reproduce what it posted there.

Beneficiaries of the couple’s largess — we’re talking many hundreds of thousands of dollars — include a who’s who in the Islamophobic/neo-conservative movement:

David Horowitz Freedom Center’s Jihad Watch project
Pajamas Media
Zionist Organization of America
MEMRI
The Investigative Project on Terrorism
CAMERA
Central Fund for Israel
Hudson Institute
Foundation for the Defense of Democracies
Council for Secular Humanism
StandWithUs

We can add to this list the Center for Security Policy to which the Chernicks donated a relatively modest sum — $30,000 — in both 2007 and 2008, according to tax records.

In addition, according to a Jewish Telegraphic Agency report, the Chernicks gave money to the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles, the Anti-Defamation League (!), and the now-defunct American Jewish Congress — organizations that are supposed to represent the mainstream of Jewish civic life.

  1. Good work Jim. “Remember, I’m pulling for you. We’re all in this together. Keep your stick on the ice.”

Don’t forget that sage bit of wisdom “I’m a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess.”
